Paula Lucie-Smith (founder: ALTA, Trinidad & Tobago non-profit, 1992) applied her training in teaching dyslexics and experience teaching adult/teen literacy to develop a literacy programme with Caribbean content. ALTA Online, the web-based version, received an EU Innovation Award (2023). Paula has received national and Caribbean awards, and an honorary doctorate.
