Major Jason Gould has dedicated over 30 years to public service as a paramedic and a distinguished member of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others, particularly in the field of corrections.
Rising through the ranks from Corrections Officer to Captain and Jail Administrator, Major Gould retired briefly before returning to serve as the Major of Operations. In this capacity, he oversees key divisions including Corrections, Paramedics, Road Patrol, Investigations, and Court Security. His leadership extends beyond the Office of the Genesee County Sheriff, as he collaborates with national organizations to shape policies and practices for correctional institutions across the United States.
Major Gould is a Nationally Certified Corrections Executive (NIJO). Major Gould also serves as a subject matter expert for the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA), a consultant for The Center for Naval Analyses (CNA), and a Technical Assistance Coach for the Jails and Justice Support Center (JJSC).
A pivotal achievement in his career is his role in the development and implementation of Sheriff Christopher R. Swanson’s I.G.N.I.T.E. initiative, a transformative philosophy designed to create culture change within correctional facilities. Validated by Harvard University, Brown University, and the University of Michigan, I.G.N.I.T.E. is recognized as a groundbreaking model for reducing recidivism, as well as improving literacy and numeracy among incarcerated individuals. I.G.N.I.T.E. has also been instrumental in rebuilding the community trust in law enforcement. Under Major Gould’s guidance, I.G.N.I.T.E. has expanded to multiple states and continues to set a new standard in corrections.
